Coace® KS-03 is a styrene-acrylonitrile-maleic anhydride copolymer.
Maleic anhydride functional compatibilizers, particularly styrene-acrylonitrile-maleic anhydride copolymers, play an important role in improving the characteristics of PA/ASA alloys. Characteristic

1. Improved Interfacial Adhesion: SAMA copolymers' exceptional compatibilizing impact stems from their ability to lower interfacial tension between the PA and ASA phases while also promoting high interfacial adhesion. The maleic anhydride functional groups in the SAMA backbone readily react with the amine end-groups of polyamide chains, whereas the styrene and acrylonitrile comonomers are compatible with the ASA matrix.

2. Thermal and Chemical Resistance: In addition to improving mechanical performance, the use of SAMA compatibilizers improves the heat and chemical resistance of PA/ASA polymer alloys. The maleic anhydride functionality improves thermal stability, allowing the alloy to retain mechanical qualities after exposure to high temperatures.

3. Processing and Compatibility: SAMA compatibilizers can be easily added into PA/ASA polymer alloys utilizing conventional twin-screw extrusion compounding processes.
